About Us

How Collegiate Mock Trial Works

Every year the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) releases the case packet for the upcoming academic year, which contains witness affidavits/ depositions, evidentiary exhibits, case law etc. Teams of 6 to 12 members, from universities all over the country, prepare both plaintiff/prosecution and defense cases to present at tournaments. Each team prepares three witnesses and three attorneys for each side. At tournaments, teams are paired with one another and present their cases just as real attorneys would at trial: opening and closing statements, direct examinations, cross examinations, even objections. Teams are scored by judges on how well they present their case within the structure of trial.

Our Program

Here at Mock Trial at UC Davis, our team is fairly young, but that does not mean we aren't competitive! We have competed at Nationals several teams and have sent teams to ORCS almost every year!

We are one program made up of three separate teams. The Fall season is a chance for each team to be of equal talent, as there is a draft at the beginning of the season after new members are chosen at auditions. After each team has time to prepare and is seen by coaches and captains, a stacking process takes place. After this, the teams are sorted into A, B, and C. After much practice and a few tournaments, those teams go on to compete in Regionals. If one or two teams make it out of Regionals, they have the opportunity to compete in ORCS, and after ORCS, hopefully Nationals. Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook for updates and if you have any questions please email us at mocktrialdavis@gmail.com.
